A combined effort between ET Rapid Response, Metro Police and Toti SAPS led to the swift recovery of a hijacked vehicle on Monday afternoon, 13 February.
According to ET Rapid Response South Coast managing member, Tony Lokker, a white VW Polo was hijacked at about 4pm from Pipeline Beach.
A friend of the couple who was hijacked, said two men came up to them on the beach, pretending to be drunk. They fought to get the car keys away from the couple. The man ran to the parking lot to get help, but the men made off with their vehicle when no-one responded.
“Fortunately myself and Metro Police K9 unit’s Shawn Jooste and his crewman Jevon China were on Beach Road when the call came through, so we could respond quickly. SAPS members W/O Kweyama, Cst Hlela and Cst Lembede also joined in the search,” said Lokker.
Two cellphones were in the vehicle when the hijackers made their escape and a passerby helped track the phones.
Lokker and the police recovered the vehicle in Umlazi’s V section within 30 minutes.
Only one phone was recovered in the car.
The second phone was tracked and recovered in the bush close by.
Unfortunately no arrests were made.
