Police discover body on beach

Drowning not ruled out after no visible external injuries noted

THE body of an unknown man was discovered on the beach adjacent to Amanzimtoti Golf Course on Saturday, 11 February at about 5pm.

Toti police said the body was that of a black man of about 25-years-old.

He was wearing a denim shorts and navy T-shirt. Police have not ruled out possible drowning as a cause of death, as there were no external injuries visible.

An inquest is being investigated by Amanzimtoti detectives. The body was removed to the Gale Street mortuary with reference number PM 230/2017.

Anyone with information that can assist with the identification of the deceased, is asked to contact Amanzimtoti detectives on 031-913-1324 from Monday to Friday, between 7.30am and 4pm.

It is unclear whether the body was that of a missing man who was believed to have drowned at Cuttings Beach on Thursday.

Local fishermen noticed the man drowning and raised the alarm, however a search by the fishermen, a team of search and rescue officials from the SAPS as well as Netcare911 paramedics failed to yield any results. The unsuccessful search resumed on Friday after being suspended due to strong currents.
