Four people were injured during an armed robbery at a store in Rana Road, Isipingo on Tuesday, 7 February.
According to Isipingo SAPS communication officer, Capt David Ragavan, about 13 heavily armed men entered a cash and carry store between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
“They posed as customers buying cooldrinks and chips, when suddenly they stormed into the strong room and demanded the safe keys,” he said.
“They took an undisclosed amount of cash before locking the owner in the strong room and assaulting staff members.”
When the security company responded to the alarm activation, the robbers opened fire on them.
The men made their escape in three vehicles – a Toyota Condor, VW Polo and Opel Corsa.
There were no injuries in the exchange of gun fire and no arrests have been made.
Netcare 911 paramedics worked alongside paramedics from other services at the scene. One person was treated for minor injuries and transported to a nearby hospital.
