No injuries as magnesium truck crosses Toti N2 [PHOTOS]

Fortunately no vehicles on either side of the N2 were affected by the incident

MIRACULOUSLY, a heavy goods tanker that had a blow-out and crossed the centre median across the entire northbound N2 carriageway opposite Galleria, resulted in no injuries this afternoon (Tuesday, 24 January).

The driver escaped with just a sprain after his vehicle travelling south towards Toti veered across the northbound lanes before it came to rest on the Moss Kolnick off-ramp embankment. The owner of the tanker said his driver reported he’d had a blow-out in his front right tyre, which caused him to lose control.

The tanker struck a stormwater drain cover on the centre median, which ripped his sump, leaving a trail of oil spilt across the northbound lanes.

The horse and tanker, which was carrying magnesium powder, came to rest on its side on the shoulder of the N2 northbound, while a second unhinged trailer landed on the grassed embankment.

Paramedics treated the driver at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital.

A hazmat team is currently cleaning the oil spillage on the northbound lanes and the off-ramp embankment.
