Watch this new grade one’s mixture of excitement and nerves about starting big school
David-John White was one of the little grade ones at Amanzimtoti Primary who started a journey on Wednesday, 11 January, which is set to take up the next 12 years of his young life.
The confident but nervous-looking little guy chatted to the Sun about his start in grade one, while colouring in a picture before school started.

Quizzed about how he felt, David-John said big school was “great” and that he looked forward to having fun and learning in grade one. He also explained how he’d had to stow his lunch on a shelf until lunch-time.
