Tide turns on Isipingo CBD litter

South Durban Basin area based management hosted a night clean-up

In an effort to turn Isipingo to a cleaner and liveable CBD, the South Durban Basin area based management hosted a night clean-up on the Friday, 18 November.

This initiative forms part of the weekly clean-up and enforcement operation currently underway in Isipingo.

Line departments involved were DSW and Metro Police.

“Isipingo has a big challenge of pollution and during the day it is bustling with commuters, taxis and traders. Night clean-ups are more effective, as there is no-one around. This assists us in our efforts to create a clean environment,” said municipal services manager, Sifiso Xulu.

The clean-up operation took place from the corner of Paddy and Philla Ndwandwe roads and went through all adjacent roads, concluding at Alexandra Road. Litter was picked up and sidewalks hosed down.

“As people working at ground level, we see a great improvement. Isipingo is much cleaner and the attitudes of the traders are changing towards keeping their environment clean. They are encouraged to keep their areas clean when they arrive the next morning,” said Isipingo zone support officer, Sandile Dlamuka.
