Tablers donate golf day proceeds to young cancer fighter

Local golfers teed off to raise funds for a young cancer sufferer.

Amanzimtoti Round Table hosted a golf day to raise funds for Ben Hawkes on Sunday, 6 November and an incredible R15,000 was raised, thanks to the generosity of the golfers.

Ben is 10-years-old and suffers from bone cancer. He was diagnosed with osteosarcoma on 25 February, just two days before his birthday.

Ben has and will spend many days in hospital, having chemo treatments and operations to remove the affected bones. These treatments and procedures come at extremely high costs, which has placed his family under immense financial stress.

The Toti Tablers met with Ben and his family on Thursday, 1 December to hand over the cheque. “Ben and his parents were extremely grateful for the donation,” said Amanzimtoti Round Table president, Vincent Tutt. “It was so heartwarming when Ben handed us Tablers a thank you card that he had made himself. Hopefully this donation will help ease the financial burden placed on his family.”
