KZN school league anglers to cast at nationals

Amanzimtoti anglers Sean Bennett and Tashil Moodley will participate in the inaugural national tournament.

The KZN Coastal Anglers Union (KZNCAU) is proud to announce the first U16 school league team has been selected to represent the union at the junior nationals being held in Mossel Bay in January.

Saveshan Chetty (15), Jared Naidoo (15), Sean Bennett (14) of Amanzimtoti, Navolen Chetty (13) and Tashil Moodley (13), also of Amanzimtoti, are the juniors who will participate in this inaugural national tournament.

These selected anglers were part of the first KZNCAU transformation development initiative which was spearheaded by KZNCAU development officer, Sheik Fazil, and assisted by a team of volunteers who sacrificed countless hours of family and personal time to implement the programme.

“The initiative is geared towards uplifting and empowering previously disadvantaged individuals and propelling them to achieving provincial and national honours,” said Fazil.

“The selected anglers have sacrificed many long hours, honing their skills and have shone through as diamonds in the rough.

They can now proudly stand toe-to-toe with some of the finest anglers at union competitions, having excelled at the round-robin selection tournament held earlier this year.

In an era where most youngsters are caught up in the digital revolution, it’s refreshing that these dedicated youngsters have chosen to embrace the great outdoors – with the sandy shores as their playground.

It’s only fitting that their accomplishment be recognised.”

The team seeks sponsorship towards their tournament costs and should any businesses or individuals be interested in assisting, call team manager, Sundesh Pursad on 082-880-0903 or email assistant manager, Noel Nadasen at noelnadasen21@gmail.com.
