Vacant house burglar bagged

CCPO, Blue Security and ET Rapid Response members cordoned the area off.

A housebreaker was nabbed on Tuesday, 6 December in a combined effort by various security companies after he was spotted by a resident.

Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) committee member, George Snodey said a neighbour noticed a suspicious person sneaking around a York Street property at about noon.

“As the house is currently empty, she realised something was amiss and called the CCPO,” said Snodey.

The man realised he had been spotted and made a dash for the railway line area in Bernadotte Street.

CCPO, Blue Security and ET Rapid Response members cordoned the area off.

Metro Police K9 unit officer, Shawn Jooste joined the search and the man was flushed out out of the bushes and arrested.

The house in York Street had the airconditioner and copper pipes ripped from the wall and a burglar guard had been forced open, as the windows had been left open to air the house for the new owners who are moving in next week.
