An armed robber was found guilty and sentenced to five years in jail in the Durban Magistrates Court on Monday, 5 December.

The robbery relates to an incident on 30 June when a 20-year-old woman victim was walking along Chestnut Lane in Doonheights with a friend at about 3.30pm. They were approached by Sibusiso Ngcobo (26), who threatened her with a knife and demanded her cellphone.

“The victim indicated she did not have one but Ngcobo was persistent and she started running,” said Amanzimtoti SAPS communication officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy.

“Ngcobo pursued her and she dropped her phone, which he then picked up and fled with on foot.”

“Amanzimtoti SAPS management commends the member of the public for his quick action in assisting the police in the fight against crime. The community is urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities,” said Capt Van Der Spuy.
