The hills are alive!

The Playhouse Company has brought in some of the biggest names in the business for this feel-good family favourite.

As the 2016 festive season draws near, make sure to include on your family’s bucket list the Playhouse Company’s fresh new vibrant production of The Sound of Music.

The Playhouse Company has brought in some of the biggest names in the business for this feel-good family favourite.
Directed by theatre legend Ralph Lawson, with choreography by Sean Bovim, set and lighting design by Denis Hutchinson, sound design by Mark Malherbe, costume design and co-ordination by Sarah Roberts, and the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Lykele Temmingh.

The production will star the popular Craig Urbani as Captain von Trapp, and Lynelle Kenned as the tomboyish, musical whirlwind of a would-be nun whom Von Trapp employs to look after his seven children after his wife’s death.

Kenned, who presents the popular SABC show Pasella and was runner-up in the Top Presenter search, comes to The Playhouse fresh from her role as another Maria, this time in Westside Story in Cape Town.

In The Playhouse Company’s production of The Sound of Music, Kenned plays the vibrant young Maria who brings music to the Von Trapps, simultaneously bringing hope to the family in times of despair. The kindly, understanding Mother Abbess will be played by opera-trained singer, Arline Jaftha. A highlight of her career was singing at the opening of the Wales Millennium Centre for the Queen of England.

So, gather your family together for an unforgettable experience of entertainment, togetherness, nostalgia and sheer good fun with The Playhouse Company’s 2016 production of The Sound of Music. Tickets are R150, R180, R200 and R225 pre-booked at Computicket, and R170, R200, R220 and R245 at the door one hour before the show, space permitting.
