Stand for election to ward 90 committee

Residents who wish to be elected to the ward committee are encouraged to take along supporters.

Now is the time to get involved and make a difference in your community.

Sunday, 20 November signals an only opportunity for members of the Amanzimtoti community to have direct input in local bread and butter municipal matters for the next five years.

Offering up a few hours of time will afford residents the opportunity to get themselves nominated and elected to the ward committee that will remain in place until 2021.

Through the ward committee process, residents are able to consult and advise the municipality, through the ward councillor, on the specific needs of each ward.
The venue for Sunday’s election is the circus site in Civic Road, Amanzimtoti, starting from 8am.

Participants must be in possession of their green bar-coded SA identity document or the new smart card version. No passports or driver’s licenses will be accepted.

Only residents who were registered for the recent local government election at the following voting stations can participate in the ward 97 committee elections: Amanzimtoti Civic Centre, Doonheights Primary School, Warner Beach Primary School and Lions Club in Warner Beach.

Nominees must be diverse in terms of race, equity and skills and representative of the demographics of ward 97. In the case of ward 97, the areas are:

1. Illovo Beach and Panorama Park

2. Winklespruit

3. Warner Beach

4. St Winifreds and Astra Park

5. Illovo Glen

6. Doonheights and Shulton Park

7. Doonside

8. Amanzimtoti central (Isundu Road west)

9. Amanzimtoti Berea and Ezimangweni

10. Amanzimtoti lower highway.

“Following the election, the 10 elected ward committee members in conjunction with the ward councillor will then identify an individual from each of these areas to align with their specific portfolio, thereby enlarging the ward committee component to 110 people, with the elected ward committee member as chairman,” said ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge.

“The elected ward committee members will receive training and a monthly stipend of R1,000 in lieu of out of pocket expenses, while the sub committee will consist of volunteers.

Residents who wish to be elected to the ward committee are encouraged to take along supporters to ensure their nomination and election. A minimum of 100 people will be required to constitute a quorum for a successful election process,” said Cllr Beetge.
