Man stabbed to death after leaving tavern

Suspect arrested the same day, as brother positively identifies him

THE decision to stop and talk to some girls after leaving a tavern in Lovu township cost a 22-year-old man his life on Saturday, 12 November.

It was at about 5.30am that Siboniso Shaka Mzulwini (22) and his brother were walking home, when they decided to stop and talk to a group of girls sitting on the roadside.

While they were talking to the girls, a 20-year-old man and his friend emerged and an argument started.

When the 20-year-old drew a knife, his friend tried to intervene by pulling him away. However he became more aggressive, broke loose and stabbed Mzulwini in the stomach and fled the scene. With his intestines visible through the stab wound, he ran towards his brother. The brother helped him home, where he died.

A case of murder was opened and Amanzimtoti detective Captain Sakhiwe Bhulose later that same morning traced and arrested the suspect. He was positively identified by Mzulwini’s brother.

He was charged with murder in Umbumbulu court on Monday, 14 November.
