UPDATE: Man dies after suicide shooting

She found her husband on the floor with a towel wrapped around his head and covered in blood.

A man died after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head in an alleged suicide in an apartment on Beach Road in Amanzimtoti on Tuesday morning, 8 November.

“When paramedics arrived on scene at about 9am, they found the man in a critical condition,” said Netcare 911 media liaison officer, Athlenda Mathe.

The man was stabilised on scene and transported to hospital under the care of an advanced life support paramedic.

Amanzimtoti SAPS communication officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy said Thomendren ‘Nathan’ Naicker (42), a businessman from Johannesburg was down on business and staying in a flat in Beach Road.

“His wife arrived from Johannesburg to accompany her husband back home,” said Capt Van Der Spuy.

“They packed their bags and before they left, he asked his wife to go buy him a packet of cigarettes at the shop.

On her return when she was coming down the passage, she heard a loud bang coming from inside the flat.

She found her husband on the floor with a towel wrapped around his head and covered in blood.

His firearm was found next to him.

The ambulance service was contacted and he was rushed to Kingsway Hospital where he died a short while later.

He had sustained a bullet wound to his head.”

A case of inquest is being investigated by Amanzimtoti detectives.
