Kingsway High School’s first cricket team has made it into the second round of the Coca Cola National T20 Tournament and will play Kearsney and Clifton for a place in the KZN quarter final.

Kingsway scored a total of 380 runs in the preliminary rounds versus a total of against 304 by all the opposition.

Top scorers were Blu Belluigi, with 115, including 95*, and Luigi Volpicelli with 107, including 65*.

Only on one occasion did the opposition reach triple figures.

On the bowling side Kingsway took a total of 25 wickets but have only lost 14 wickets in the competition so far.

Top bowlers were Luigi Volpicelli with seven wickets, and Bryce Venter, Pierce Ackermann and Yastil Mohanlall each with three wickets each.

Twice the opposition were bowled out short of the 20-over mark.

“The side has moulded itself into a compact, spirited group comprised of four grade 11s and the balance grade 10s,” said coach Steve Belluigi.

“Their major strength is that each member is totally committed to the team, rather than self-glorification, and compliments have been expressed by all opposition regarding the team’s spirit and enthusiasm to play.”

This, together with the improved facilities the school has made available to coaches and players, bodes well for cricket at Kingsway High School.

The Toti boys play Clifton on Wednesday, 9 November in an away fixture.
