Pet dog found trapped in snare [GRAPHIC PHOTO]

He was discharged to go home on Monday afternoon.

Amanzimtoti SPCA has once again gone beyond the call of duty to rescue an animal in distress.

“We received a call on Friday morning that there was a dog crying in the bush near the parks and leisure offices at the back of Toti,” said Amanzimtoti SPCA manager, Tracey Girling.

Inspector Dawn du Plooy and Delani Mncwengi responded immediately and once Dawn heard the distress cry from the dog, she suspected it had been caught in a snare.

They searched through thick bush for two hours and eventually found the dog caught in a snare.

“The snare was so deeply embedded in the dog’s flesh, it indicated it had happened a couple of days earlier,” said Tracey.

They cut the snare and Dawn and Delani carried the dog on their shoulders through the bush and over a river to safety.

“The dog was immediately taken to our vet Dr Hoole.

He had a collar on with one of our SPCA identity discs on and we immediately phoned his owners who went to the vet.

They were very relieved that their dog named ‘Bow’ had been found.

I phoned the vet on Saturday and Bow was doing a lot better. He was discharged to go home on Monday afternoon,” said Tracey.
