Welfare laces up for anti-violence walk

The walk starts at the grass area at Winklespruit beach to finish at Baggies on Warner beach.

Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare invites the Toti public to walk for a good cause.

“In keeping with 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children, we will hold a fundraising, fun and relaxed walk on the beach on Sunday, 27 November at 8am,” said chairman, Jenny Smith.

The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children is an international awareness-raising campaign. It takes place every year from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day).

South Africa adopted the campaign in 1998 as one of the intervention strategies towards creating a society free of violence. The campaign continues to raise awareness among South Africans about the negative impact of violence against women and children on all members of the community.

The walk starts at the grass area at Winklespruit beach to finish at Baggies on Warner beach.

Entry fee is R20 per person or a bag of used clean clothes or shoes, which will be donated to Welfare. Entry fees can be paid on the day.

“This walk has been initiated by our junior members, so please support us,” said Jenny.

“We will walk whether it is raining or the sun is shining. Young or old are welcome to join us. You can walk at your own pace, socialise, be happy and enjoy our beautiful beaches.”
