Take stroke in your stride

Walk the walk at Tafta Stroke Walk on Durban’s beachfront

With National Stroke Week running from 28 October to 3 November, the Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa (HSFSA) proudly supports the annual The Association for the Aged (Tafta) stroke awareness walk on Durban’s main beachfront this Stroke Week.

Join the Tafta Stroke Walk on Wednesday, 26 October from 9am at the Durban beachfront amphitheatre where entry is free.

The annual Tafta Stroke Walk allows stroke survivors to participate in a social event whereby they can walk their own walk – be it a few steps or a longer distance – to enjoy the outdoors, socialise and meet other survivors.

The HSFSA will offer free basic medical screening for the public at the event. Early detection is essential to help reduce the risk of a heart attack or stroke. The HSFSA encourages all South Africans to get screened by measuring their blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose and body mass index (BMI). Knowing these vital signs could be the early warnings you need to know if your health is at risk.

Together with making healthy food choices, regular physical activity is essential to a balanced lifestyle. The annual Tafta Stroke Walk is a perfect opportunity to get some physical exercise and enjoy a day of fun activities and social relaxation. The opportunity to de-stress is essential for people with the increasing demands in life as stress can build up to intolerable levels, which in turn can cause illness.
