R603 crash injuries 27 children

It is believed the children had all been travelling in a delivery vehicle on their way to school.

Twenty seven children were injured in a collision between two transport vehicles on the R603 in Umbumbulu on Friday morning, 21 October.

ER24 paramedics, along with another service, found a bakkie and light delivery van parked on the side of the road.

Numerous children, believed to be aged between 6 and 10, were found walking around at the scene.

“Paramedics assessed the children and found they had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate,” said ER24 spokesman, Russel Meiring.

“Fortunately no serious or fatal injuries were reported on scene.”

Paramedics treated the patients and transported them to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.

It is believed the children had all been travelling in a delivery vehicle on their way to school when the collision occurred.

The cause of the collision is unknown but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
