Water flow restrictors installed in Toti

It is recommended that residents check supply taps.

While there has been increased rainfall within the Amanzimtoti area recently, the same pattern is not reflected in the city’s catchment areas and bulk supply into the city has already been reduced by bulk suppliers.

As a result contractors started installing flow limiters in the larger Amanzimtoti area last week, which does however not rule out the possibility of further water restrictions, should there not be a drastic reduction in usage.

“Reduction is achieved by effectively fitting a disc with a specific size hole (similar to a washer) in the supply line. In doing so, the supply has to be turned off and in some cases, contractors neglect to open the tap, resulting in residents thinking their water supply has been terminated,” said ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge.

“It is recommended that residents check supply taps prior to calling either private plumbers or the municipality’s engineering services on 080-131-3013.”

Residents may have noticed yellow and red markings sprayed onto the exterior of their water meters. To clarify, the initial mark indicates that the water restrictor has been fitted and the second marking shows that the position of the restrictor has been geo-tagged so that the restrictor can be removed once the drought is over.
