A woman passenger died after the vehicle she was travelling in struck the Amanzimtoti River bridge on the N2 north on Saturday afternoon, 17 September.
Reports from the scene indicate the vehicle had veered off the roadway and slammed into the concrete bridge at about 4pm.
Paramedics, provincial services and the fire department found the woman passenger had sustained life-threatening injuries, while the driver escaped with minor injuries.
“Paramedics worked hand-in-hand to try to resuscitate the woman but despite their efforts, she was declared dead soon after arriving at hospital,” said Netcare 911 media liaison officer, Chris Botha.
