Man arrested as unlicensed gun, drugs seized from Folweni home

Pistol, ammo and heroin-filled capsules with a value of R2,000 seized

In the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, 13 September), the police’s national mobile train unit arrested a 39-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and drugs.

The members acted on an intelligence-driven information about drugs being concealed in a house in the Folweni area. On searching the house, the team found a 9mm pistol with two live rounds of ammunition. They confiscated it along with 51 capsules filled with heroin which was also recovered. The street value of the recovered drugs is R2,000.

The recovered firearm will be taken for ballistics testing to ascertain if it was used in the commission of any crimes. The man will appear in Umlazi Magistrates’ Court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and drugs.
