CCPO hooks angling goods shoplifters

They were selling the goods to fishermen on the beach.

Two shoplifters were apprehended by a Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) committee member on Friday, 9 September.

The two men were caught on CCTV shoplifting high-priced lures at The Fishing Tackle Shop in Warner Beach on Wednesday and Thursday, 7 and 8 September by shop managerMarkham Pollard, who alerted the CCPO.

On Friday at about 9am, George Snodey spotted someone he suspected to be one of the shoplifters in Pick n Pay Winklespruit’s parking lot. “He was wearing different pants but the same top,” said Snodey. “I observed him and spotted his partner wearing the same top. Gary van Sluis and I apprehended them and took them to the shop to show them the footage. They admitted it was them and they were selling the goods to fishermen on the beach.”

Pollard estimates the pair had stolen goods worth about R3,700 over a long period from his shop.

The pair were charged and arrested by Toti SAPS.
