Kogie takes prestigious woman’s title

The KWC honours a role model and mentor who has made sterling contributions to humanity.

Kogie Singh is the Kamalinee Women Committee’s (KWC) Leading Lady for 2016.

The annual KWC Leading Lady awards ceremony is a prestigious event where one outstanding individual is recognised and appreciated for their contributions to underprivileged individuals and the community at large.

“Our Leading Lady for 2016, Kogie Singh has indeed earned her way into the company of many great women who have served as previous recipients,” said KWC chairman, Neeranjini Rajoo.

“Annually the Kamalinee Women’s Committee honours a role model and mentor who has made sterling contributions to humanity. The bust of Nefertiti is presented to the recipient.

“Nefertiti, a role model, was humble, pious and stood up for the disadvantaged or marginalised community. Therefore we find it fitting to honour a forerunner in education, community service and voice for the marginalised communities with this prestigious award.

Kogie is involved in voluntary service and the upliftment of humanity. The lifeblood of this diminutive, yet resilient woman is to be an instrument of selfless service to others.”

She has achieved this by volunteering at the Chatsworth Regional Hospice since 1998 and is currently the president of this organisation. Hospice cares for people who have debilitating, life-threatening illnesses. They strive to bring joy and support to those in need at the final stages of their life’s journey. Kogie has also distinguished herself by being involved with other NGOs, including the Aryan Benevolent Home Chatsworth Rotary which provides support to pupils via extra lessons.

She is a remarkable orator and author who has many published books, poems and articles in the USA, UK and South Africa.
