Four killed in horror Lovu head-on crash

The truck veered off the road and pushed the car for about 100 metres.

Four men died when their vehicle collided with a runaway truck on the R603 in Lovu Township on Saturday, 3 September at 7pm.

According to Netcare 911 media liaison officer, Chris Botha, the truck was travelling towards Winklespruit when it collided head-on with a Toyota vehicle.

“Paramedics found that after impact the truck veered off the road and pushed the car for about 100 metres through a settlement, destroying everything in its path,” said Botha.

The vehicle was found wedged under the truck with four occupants still trapped in the vehicle. “Three died before our arrival and one man was in a critical condition. Medics worked fervently to stabilise the man but he died before we could extricate him from the wreckage.”

Firemen used the jaws of life to try and extricate the four people but in the end a heavy-duty tow truck and crane had to be used to pull the truck off the car and allow the firemen to extricate the people.

Exact detail to the cause of the crash and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation.
