Pedestrians struck by crashing cars

An elderly woman sustained critical injuries.

Two pedestrians were seriously injured when they were struck by a vehicle after it had collided with another vehicle on the R603 on Wednesday morning, 24 August.

Netcare 911 paramedics, fire services and several other ambulance services responded to the collision in the Lovu Township area.

Reports from the scene indicate that a red Toyota Corolla collided into the side of another vehicle at an intersection and one of the vehicles then veered off the road and collided with the pedestrians before coming to rest against the armco barriers.

Paramedics found an elderly woman had been thrown over the barriers and landed on tyres that were placed in a culvert. She sustained critical injuries.

A man was found on the verge in a serious condition.

Medics treated the injured at the scene before they transported them to a hospital in Umlazi.

The drivers of both vehicles escaped uninjured.
