Contractors await SANRAL repair detail

The fast lane surface has been stabilised.

Ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge has provided an update on the repair status of the sinkhole on the N2 southbound carriageway, just before the Adams Road off-ramp.

According to Cllr Beetge, who visited the site on Thursday morning, 18 August, the soil nails and mesh have been installed, and the cement is drying on repairs to the substructure.

He said he’d been told by the contractors on site that the fast lane surface has been stabilised, and they were awaiting word from the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) engineers on further repair details and the time frame.

In this, the third week since the sinkhole developed in the torrential downpours that struck at the end of July, the contractors arrived and have been working along with the aid of an on-site generator to repair the defunct slow lane.

There has been no visible activity at the repair site since last Thursday.
