CCPO network closes in on criminals

He was involved in a housebreaking at the same premises and had returned for a TV left behind.

An alert Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) committee member helped apprehend a housebreaker on Wednesday, 17 August.

According to committee member, George Snodey, the CCPO received a report of a housebreaking in progress at Mopani flats in Acutt Road just before 3pm.

The CCPO, Blue Security, ET Rapid Response, Metro Police and SAPS dog unit responded.

“The thieves had fled on foot empty-handed,” said Snodey. “Committee member, Rob Mill and his son Cameron waited on Old Main Road near the entrance to KwaMakhutha. They recognised the men and called for back-up.”

ET Rapid Response officer, Ashley Singh with Rob and Cameron apprehended one of the men.

“He said he was involved in a housebreaking at the same premises on Saturday and they had returned for a TV they had left behind.

He agreed to show SAPS where he had sold the TV and laptop taken on Saturday. He took them to a tavern in Isipingo where the items were recovered.”

The owner of the tavern was arrested by SAPS.

The thief also showed the police an arc welder that he had sold to a warehouse near Old Main Road and that buyer was also arrested.

In a combined effort between the CCPO, Blue Security, Metro Police and ET Rapid Response a thief was arrested more than a month after he robbed a woman of her cellphone at knife-point on 4 July.

On Tuesday, 16 August she recognised the thief and reported it to a CCPO guard.

“He was caught by Blue Security and CCPO response officer, Mbuyiselo ‘Triple M’ Mdunjane after a search for him,” said Snodey.

The thief took Metro Police dog handler Shawn Jooste, Triple M and ET Rapid Response officer, Ashley Singh to Felikize where the cellphone was recovered and he was handed over to Toti SAPS.
