CONFIRMED: No tolls on N2 through Toti
National roads agency confirms the Wild Coast toll road project has been amended to end at Eastern Cape-KZN border
THE South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) has clarified that the proposed N2 Wild Coast toll road route from East London has been amended to end at the Eastern Cape and KZN border – and not at Isipingo.
Furthermore, tolling is now only planned for the greenfields section between Port St John and Port Edward and not the entire route.
For years, the Upper South Coast Anti-Toll Alliance and business interest groups opposed the construction of the Eastern Cape-Wild Coast toll road on the basis that vehicles some 100km away on the Upper South Coast were required by the proposal mooted at that time to foot the bill for a road located in the Eastern Cape.
“By law and in terms of our fair user-pays policy, SANRAL does not cross-subsidise between different toll roads. Accordingly, there will be no new toll gates or amended tolls at existing toll gates within KZN linked to the N2WCR in the Eastern Cape,” said Mbulelo Peterson, SANRAL regional manager for the Southern region.
