Business forum golf proceeds to aid Bobbi Bear

Through the donation from DSBF, it is possible to rescue 60 abused children.

AN AMANZIMTOTI NPO was the worthy recipient of the proceeds of the recent Durban South Business Forum (DSBF) annual golf day.

“This year it was decided that the proceeds of the golf day would be donated to Operation Bobbi Bear,” said DSBF president Aart Verrips.

Bobbi Bear is totally dependent on donations from the public sector with no help from government structures. It works on behalf of children who have been sexually abused, to minimise their risk of HIV infection at the point of rescue, ensure their health and well-being, and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Bobbi Bear reaches out far beyond the boundaries of eThekwini. “In spite of their financial struggle, the dedication and courage of the few staff sees them perform miracles to safeguard abused children,” said Verrips.

In 2015, more than 20,000 children were reached in schools and communities, and hundreds of children were rescued, given treatment and the perpetrators brought before the courts.

Bobbi Bear has a ‘rescue pack’ used for initial care and treatment of rescued children. It is estimated that the cost of one rescue pack is in the region of R200.

Through the donation of R12,000 from DSBF, it is possible to rescue 60 abused children from extreme adverse circumstances.

Anybody wishing to contribute to this worthy cause can contact Bobbi Bear on 072-708-0095 or 072-443-2525.
