WITH the local government elections days away on the public holiday, Wednesday, 3 August, Toti voters are urged to heed the following:

  • Voting stations will be open from 7am to 7pm.
  • Voting stations will be split alphabetically in an effort to speed up the process.
  • SMS your ID number to 32810 or visit the IEC website to check where you are registered so that you don’t end up waiting at the incorrect voting station.
  • Only a valid barcoded ID, smart card or temporary ID can be used to vote – no passports or driver’s license.
  • The drama associated with the capture of voters’ addresses can be ignored for this election and voters can cast their vote where they are registered.
  • The voter has to be present at the voting station where they are registered within the ward to cast a vote – there is no postal or online voting.
  • The IEC has introduced an additional table into the voting station where every voter’s address details will be captured after they have cast their vote, but before they leave the voting station in preparation for the 2019 national elections.
  • Wednesday is a public holiday to allow all registered voters the opportunity to vote for the candidate or party that they feel can best represent their interest in local government.
  • Voters will receive two ballot papers – the one will reflect the name of the candidate next to the party they represent – the person who receives the largest number of votes on this ballot will become the ward councillor representing the interest of its citizens in local government.

The second ballot will have the party name and logo – this ballot will determine the number of representative councillors that the party will have in local government.

  • Voting stations in ward 97 include the old Lions club in Hall Road (Warner Beach), Warner Beach Junior Primary School (Warner Beach), Doonheights Primary School (Doonheights) and Amanzimtoti Civic Centre.

Voting stations in ward 93 include Kuswag Skool, Umbogintwini Primary School, Athlone Park library, Ziko hall, Sewula School, Kusa Kusa School, Ezibokodweni School.
