Packed two-day karnaval planned at Kuswag

Weekend package tickets are available through Kuswag Skool

THE 10th Kuswag Karnaval is set to take over Amanzimtoti on Friday and Saturday, 12 and 13 August.

This annual family-friendly festival, hosted on the fields of Kuswag Skool, attracts thousands of visitors each year because of the vast range of quality music, fun activities and great food on offer.

“We are so excited to host the Kuswag Karnaval once again,” said chairman of the organising committee, Melanie de Witt. “The event gets bigger and better every year and visitors to the 2016 instalment can look forward to an impressive programme line-up featuring some great South African bands and children’s entertainment, as well as fantastic retail and food stalls.”

The two-day programme is packed with entertainment and activities for all ages, as well as an ongoing arts and craft market, fleamarket, tea garden and beer marquee. A fun fair offers 23 breath-taking rides, suited to all levels of excitement.

There will also be a cross-section of exhibitors showcasing a variety of home improvements, travel, outdoor, sports and leisure equipment and accessories, motoring, health and beauty, as well as fashion and jewellery, among others.

On Friday things get going at noon with live music stretching late into the evening. There will be a fun reptile show, marshmallow-eating contest and horse show and rides for the youngsters, as well as the highly-entertaining laser tag.

There will also be boeresport team competitions involving tug of war, egg and spoon races and other country fair contests while those with catwalk ambitions are encouraged to enter the Mr and Mrs Carnival contest taking place at 6pm.

This will be followed by the U18 high school foam party on Friday evening, featuring leading South African bands, Veranda Panda and Wolwedans. Adults will be kept entertained by The GeeJays in the beer marquee.

On Saturday, the fun starts at 9am with Barney and Friends, Mickey and Minnie as well as Minions and various Disney princesses all out to meet the children. Colouring-in competitions, face-painting and fun crafts will keep children enthralled and there will also be a ‘princess crowning ceremony’ for all those dressed up as princesses on the day.

Toti Fire Brigade will provide an informative, fun, foam-filled demonstration on fire prevention and control. Those with hidden skills are invited to showcase their skills at the open mic talent show.

Saturday will end with entertainment provided by the Double Beat Drum School, America Talent Project winners, as well as South African bands, Tremour Suite, Remedy Project and Wolwedans with Gerhard Steyn headlining the event.

Funds raised through the staging of the karnaval are used for school improvements and additions such as re-doing the school swimming pool, paving, shade ports and benches for pupils.

Weekend package tickets are available through Kuswag Skool until 11 August at a cost of R100 per adult, R50 per child and R120 for U18s attending the carnival and Veranda Panda Foam Party on Friday, 12 August. Tickets at the gate are R60 per adult, R30 per child and R100 for U18s attending the party. There is free parking and no charge for children under two years.
