Occupants flee burning Hull Valley house

Quick reaction by community members managed to extinguish the blaze

OCCUPANTS escaped injury after their Hull Valley house caught alight in Umkomaas on Monday morning, 11 July.

“”It was reported there were people trapped in the house, but when we arrived it was found the house was empty and no-one had sustained any injuries. Paramedics, along with Amanzimtoti Fire Department, arrived at the rural settlement and found members of the community gathered around the house,” said ER24 spokesman, Russel Meiring.

Members of the community had grabbed buckets of water in an effort to contain the blaze and this quick reaction managed to extinguish the blaze.”

It is believed a woman was baking in the house when there was an apparent electrical fault. Paramedics assessed her, but it was found she had sustained only minor smoke inhalation. She later declined to be transported to hospital.

Fire services remained on scene to ensure the fire had been completely extinguished.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigation.
