Reading takes root after library plants book clubs

Amanzimtoti library started book clubs at three different schools

SCHOOLS that performed best in a creative writing competition were awarded certificates by Amanzimtoti library staff.

“Amanzimtoti library started book clubs at three different schools, where we took books to them and collected them after the pupils had finished reading,” said librarian Slie Mosia.

After reading a number of books, pupils were given a change to write reviews which were pasted on the library‘s display board.

Pupils were also given information about rhino poaching which features in ‘The Last Rhino’ written by Lawrence Anthony, the featured book selected for the ‘One City One Book’ campaign for 2015/16. They used this additional information to write stories based on the feature book and the topic of rhino poaching.

“When pupils had finished writing their stories, they submitted them to the library,” said Slie. “The library staff read their stories and reviews and chose the top three winners. We visited the participating schools to award the winning pupils their certificates.”
