Paraplegic pledges to push boundaries

"I want to be an inspiration for other paraplegics and let them know to not let their disabilities bring them down" - Mark Le Roux

HAVING a disability has not stopped Winklespruit resident and paraplegic, Mark Le Roux from achieving his goal from taking part in the Quad 4 Quads challenge.

Quad 4 Quads is an off-road motorcycle event from Johannesburg to Durban and back is a trip of 1000 km each way to raise funds for the QuadPara Association. The event starts on 28 September and finishes in Ballito on 3 October. The initiative began 13 years ago.

Le Roux and partner Mario Leone hope to take part with the help of the community by holding a raffle. “Two paintings will be raffled, one done by Mario and the other by Fanie De Klerk. We are looking to raise R15,000,” said Le Roux.

The dirt bike adventure is open to and invites all riders of dirt motorcycles, quads or side-by-sides to take part in the charity event which has over the years raised over R6-million for QuadPara Association of South Africa (QASA).

QASA provides projects, products and services for quadriplegics and paraplegics. This includes skills development, computer training and driver training opportunities, to name a few. QASA is also involved in advocacy to ensure the rights of people with disabilities.

Quad 4 Quads presents an opportunity for those with disabilities to outshine and raise money for a worthy cause. “This is something I wanted to be part of since my accident. I might have lost a leg but I did not lose my will to live. This is a great opportunity for someone like me to show the world that anything can be done no matter how many limbs are missing. I want to be an inspiration for other paraplegics and let them know to not let their disabilities bring them down,” said Le Roux.
