Scottish skateboarding ride to fund children’s home

His journey will take him about six weeks to complete.

Ex-Toti resident David Bosman will take on the greatest challenge of his life by skateboarding from John O’Groats at the top of Scotland to Lands End at the bottom of England.

His route will take him more than 1,000 miles on a plastic Penny skateboard and he will do the trip with no support, carrying everything he needs on his back.

His journey, which began on Wednesday, 1 June, will take him about six weeks to complete. His plan is to raise at least £5,000 (about R115,000) for the TLC Children’s Home in Johannesburg.

“TLC is run by my good friends the Jarvis family and was established to rescue the tiniest victims of a society in turmoil,” said David. “Since they rescued their first two little ones in April 1993, they have continued to play a part in changing the destiny of more than 780 babies who have been abandoned or orphaned, as South Africa continues to be plagued by HIV/Aids and unemployment.

Every baby at TLC is a part of the family and they fight for the rights of everyone, seeking the best for each individual, always.

Being committed to this belief has meant that over time they have had to grow. The family has grown from five children to almost 30. The nursery accommodates another 30 little babies between birth and the age of three years.

They are assisted by a fantastic international team of up to 24 volunteer caregivers and employ a number of staff members to assist with administrative and domestic duties. None of this would be possible without the ongoing, faithful support of TLC’s friends all over the world.

Every £1 donated will go towards infant formula, groceries, nappies and day-to-day running costs.

To help David realise his goal, visit his ‘Just Giving’ webpage www.justgiving.com/1000-mile-skate to sponsor him a few miles.
