Camping visitors knit beanies for Mooi Hawens

We were inspired by Cansa to start the weekly knitting sessions.

Visiting holidaymakers put their free time to good use when they knitted and donated beanies to Mooi Hawens residents.

The ATKV Natalia Beach Resort in Illovo Beach invited its month campers to get together once a week and while socialising over a cup of coffee, the Gauteng and Free State visitors put their hands to work and knitted 93 colourful and funky woolen hats for the pensioners to keep warm this winter.

“We were inspired by Cansa to start the weekly knitting sessions,” said resort manager, Elize-Lee Pretorius. “Our month campers are usually pensioners, so we thought it would be a good idea to offer them a fun activity to get them active and busy. Twelve visitors joined in the weekly knit sessions and even some men participated.”

It was decided Mooi Hawens residents would be a good recipient and some of the out-of-town visited the old-age home when ATKV handed over the beanies on Wednesday morning, 25 May.

“We will offer the knitting get-togethers to our month campers next May and we may knit blankets,” said Elize-Lee.
