Sign up for counselling course

Africa Cares for Life holds pregnancy crisis counselling training at Lionsgate Church at 24 Queens Terrace from 20 to 24 June.

Training takes place from 9am to 4pm each day at a cost of R800 for the course, which includes manuals and refreshments.

Candidates must take their own lunch.

All training offered by Africa Cares is facilitated by a SETA-accredited facilitator.

“Although the course is based on pregnancy counselling, the seven fundamentals can be used in all types of counselling,” said operations director for Africa Cares for Life, Shanno Enoch.

The journey programme comprises 10 steps towards healing for a person struggling with a past abortion decision. “This training will equip a trainee to walk alongside a person, always ready to offer support, encourage, affirm and guide them to healing.”

For this reason, the journey programme is geared towards taking the trainee counsellor on the same route first, allowing them to understand and empathise with some of the thoughts and emotions which a person will encounter and which will need to be sensitively confronted and worked though.

Part of the recovery process will involve a change of thinking and attitude. “We can’t change the past, we don’t know the future, but we can change the way we think,” said Shanno.

The journey model can also be used to assist with miscarriage and sexual trauma healing.
