Barney’s Army donation channelled to Bobbi Bear

Barney’s Army supports three charities close to Smit's heart - LIV Village in Verulam, Operation Bobbi Bear and the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Player’s Fund in Cape Town.

Springbok World Cup winning captain John Smit’s foundation, Barney’s Army received a R42,500 donation from Sun International’s Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom, which will benefit Operation Bobbi Bear.

“Our golf days are held for our guests during the course of the year and they are always well supported. We include a charity element to the day and the guests are only too happy to contribute to helping those in need,” said Sun International regional manager, Melville Vogel. “This year we chose Barney’s Army because the impact these funds will have on the three charities he supports is immediate, the funds go directly to making a positive contribution to those in need.”

Established in 2012, Barney’s Army supports three charities close to Smit’s heart – LIV Village in Verulam, Operation Bobbi Bear and the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Player’s Fund in Cape Town.

“Since I started the foundation, I have been overwhelmed with the support we have received, especially from corporates like Sibaya,” said Smit. “It gives me the opportunity to channel these funds to the causes that help make this world, especially here in South Africa, a better place.

I have always supported the three charities in my personal capacity and through Barney’s Army, I am able to gather more troops to help join in fighting the good fight. A big thank you to Melville and his valued guests at Sibaya for their contribution, especially this time of year when winter is about to set in, hearts will be warmed by this.”
