Child (6) dies after being hit by bakkie

No-one in the bakkie was injured.

A young boy died after being knocked by a bakkie after school in Umfume Road in Umgababa on Thursday afternoon, 19 May.

ER24 paramedics as well as Voluntary Emergency Medical Assistance (VEMA) and other services attended the scene of the accident.

Paramedics found the boy, who was believed to be six years of age, lying on the road several metres away from the bakkie.

“Upon assessment of the child, it was found that he sustained multiple injuries. Sadly there was nothing that could be done for him and he was declared dead at the scene,” said ER24 spokesman, Chitra Bodasing.

“The bakkie was also transporting children at the time of the incident. No-one in the bakkie was injured.”

The exact cause cause of the incident is unknown and authorities were on scene for further investigations.
