Swift recovery of stolen cellphone

As they were questioning a group of car guards, a community member approached them and handed them a cellphone.

Praise has been heaped on two Toti SAPS constables for their quick response which led to the recovery of a stolen cellphone on Wednesday, 26 April.

Constables Makhonofane and Lembede were patrolling Beach Road when they were stopped by a complainant.

“The complainant indicated that her cellphone, which was on a table under her gazebo at the main beach area, was stolen while she was given food to some car guards,” said Toti SAPS communication officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy.

The incident had occured about 45 minutes earlier and the police were given a description of her cellphone.

“The members went along Beach Road, questioning car guards. As they were questioning a group of car guards, a community member approached them and handed them a cellphone. According to him, he saw a group of car guards fighting and as he approached to intervene, they dropped the cellphone and ran off.”

The cellphone matched the description of the one that was reported stolen and police contacted the owner to come to the police station. The owner identified the cellphone as the same one that was stolen, but she did not wish to open a case.
