School hosts prefect interaction

We mingled and shared ideas with prefects from other areas

Amanzimtoti High School hosted another successful Prefect Interact Day on Tuesday, 26 April.

The initiative was started by the Toti school in 2002 as it felt there was a need for prefects to reach out and develop their skills and get fresh new leadership ideas.

The school decided to invite prefects from other areas to share their ideas, ways to discipline and support each other in how to best lead their schools. This year 98 prefects accepted the invitation.

“Prefects from local schools, schools from Durban and from as far as Kloof and Scottburgh are invited to spend a morning with us one day of the year,” said Amanzimtoti High School head girl, Katie Dawe.

“We mingled and shared ideas with prefects from other areas and discussed how we can improve our leadership skills, develop new ideas to deal with discipline within schools and in general how we, as prefects, can fulfil our duties to the best of our abilities. Hearing different scenarios helped us learn from each other.

A guest speaker was invited to come and motivate us and afterwards we enjoyed lunch together.

At the end of the morning, we felt we had learnt, grown and developed ourselves as leaders, prefects and people,” said Katie.
