Eight arrests effected by joint police effort

I urge community members to stand up and assist the police by informing us of the whereabouts of wanted criminals.

Eight people were arrested for various crimes during an intelligence-driven operation in Amanzimtoti, Umkomaas, Umgababa and Umlazi on Thursday and Friday, 28 and 29 April.

Multi-disciplinary operations by the Public Order Policing, Tactical Response Team, Umlazi detectives, Bhekithemba Vispol and other units were launched in the areas and suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, drugs, possession of property suspected to be stolen and business robbery.

Police recovered two unlicensed firearms, dagga, rock cocaine, stolen vehicles, heroin, cellphones and other electronic devices. The arrested men are due to appear in court soon.

KZN provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the initiatives of the eThekwini Outer South Cluster. “We will see more operations such as this in various parts of the province as we clamp down further on wanted criminals. Criminals should know that they cannot relax as they might be arrested at any time.

I urge community members to stand up and assist the police by informing us of the whereabouts of wanted criminals, even if they are members of your family or your friends,” she said.
