Burglar brought down by police dog

The lesson to be learnt here is the manner in which the resident reacted.

A house robber was nabbed in the act after he was tackled by a police dog in an Aloe Road premises on Thursday morning, 28 April.

According to Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) committee member, George Snodey, they received news of the break-in in progress by the home owner at about 8.30am.

“The resident, who remained calm under the circumstances, reported that she was in one room and the suspect in the house somewhere,” he said.

The CCPO, Blue Security and Chubb Security responded immediately and were on the scene within minutes. Metro Police officers Greef and Manning of the K9 unit were also on scene and when they released their dog, the intruder was tackled and arrested, much to the relief of the nervous resident.

“This was a job well done by all in responding and containing the suspect in such quick time,” said Snodey. “The lesson to be learnt here is the manner in which the resident reacted – staying calm, locking herself in a room and calling for help.”

A housebreaker was arrested by a Blue Security response officer on Sunday morning, 1 May after he broke into a Kissin Lane premises.

“Blue Security response officer Lloyd responded to the housebreaking and was given a description of the suspect. Along with a few CCPO vehicles, he patrolled the area, hoping to find the suspect. He eventually found him in the Fynn Road area, carrying a toolbox full of tools.”

The thief was apprehended and handed over to Toti SAPS.
