Lifeguard hit by car while crossing Kingsway

Paramedics found the man had slid across the bonnet of the vehicle and smashed the windshield.

A lifeguard at Pipeline Beach has been hospitalised after he was struck by a car while crossing Kingsway, outside Gloria’s Bakery at about 8am this morning (Tuesday, 3 May).

Netcare 911 paramedics received a call for a pedestrian crash along Kingsway Road in Amanzimtoti and were told that a lifeguard on his way to work tried to run across the road in front of Virgin Active gym, when he landed in front of a vehicle.

Paramedics found the man had slid across the bonnet of the vehicle and smashed the windshield with his head and arms. Medics stabilised the seriously injured man at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital.
