Burglar uses adapted fishing rod to hook Doonside house keys

CCPO warns residents to keep valuables and keys out of sight

A Doonside house burglar left behind the tools of his trade when a home owner awoke to find him standing over his bed last Thursday, 21 April.
At about 10pm, the Rockview Road home owner shouted when he woke up to find the burglar standing over him.

While this scared off the burglar, in his haste to flee, he left behind a short-handled panga and a specially adapted fishing rod with a hook attached to the end.

The burglar had used the hook to pilfer the house keys through an open window, which he then used to gain entry.

Community Crime Prevention Organisation’s George Snodey said the civic-funded crime fighting group has previously warned residents about the danger of leaving their keys and valuables in plain sight in their homes.

“Residents must make it as difficult as possible for housebreakers, and keeping their keys out of sight is the first step,” he said.
