Temple hosts 108th chariot festival

The Illovo Maha Vishnu Temple holds the 108th Chariot Festival on Saturday, 26 March from 7am to 3pm.

“We invite all devotees and their families for a day of prayer and celebrations. This celebration is to encourage the youth in an observation of one of the oldest traditions in the Southern Hemisphere,” said trustee, Keith Mudray.

“Our highlight for 2016 will be Luxmi Stars and various other artists. We invite everyone to attend who would like to perform at our 2017 function.”

Breakfast and lunch will be provided for the estimated crowd of 1,000 people.

The annual Easter Chariot Festival will consist of:

* Good Friday prayers at Marieamman Temple on Friday, 25 March from 9am to 3pm;

* Hanuman Vagnam departs the temple at 3pm on Friday, 25 March;

*Shreedevi Bumedevi Samathe Narayana Thiru Kalyanam Utsavam on Saturday, 26 March at 7am (officiating priests for Thiru Kalyanam: Gurukkal Balasundaram and Gurukkal Lakshminarayanan Swaminathan;

* Chariot departs the temple for grounds at 10am;

* Chariot departs the grounds for temple at 3pm;

* Flag de-hoisting at 5pm.
