Car sale at pound lands in court

Corruption at the Isipingo SAPS vehicle pound is under the spotlight.

Dylan Narasimulu (39) of Lotus Park appeared in Amanzimtoti Magistrate’s Court on Thursday and Friday, 3 and 4 March accused of selling a vehicle from the Refinery Road pound in October 2013.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge of fraud on 6 August 2015.

Narasimulu stands accused of misrepresenting himself as the owner of a Volkswagen Golf Trendline and accepting a fee of R55,000 from a member of the public, Visvanathan Pillay to purchase the vehicle.

The state prosecutor’s witness is SAPS Cst Lunga Milton Lubanyana, who is stationed at the pound.

The case has been remanded to 26 May.

This is not the first time corruption at the SAPS pound has come to light. In 2011 media reported that high-end cars were being stripped of parts at the pound from as far back as 2000.
