A THIRTY-four-year-old man is in a serious condition after a near drowning at Illovo beach on Tuesday evening, 15 March.
“Paramedics responded to a call-out near the ATKV holiday resort at about 6pm,” said Netcare 911 media liaison officer, Chris Botha.
“Reports from the scene indicate a husband and wife went swimming when they landed in a rip current.
The husband frantically battled to keep his wife above water and in the process, inhaled water into his lungs.”
An advanced life support paramedic and his team found the man in serious condition, while his wife was in a stable condition, although exhausted.
Paramedics stabilised the man before transporting him to a local hospital.
