Police dent crime with 42 arrested effected in last fortnight

In the fortnight from 1 March to mid-month, Amanzimtoti police made good inroads in the fight against crime, with 42 arrests being effected.

Of these, three people were arrested for murder and one for rape.
Indicative of the seriousness of the local drug problem, four people were arrested for possession of whoonga, 12 for cannabis and one for possession of heroin.

Six shoplifters were arrested, five people were arrested for housebreaking with intent, two for theft and one each for malicious damage to property, reckless and negligent driving, drunk driving and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The remainder of the arrests related to individual cases of assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm (GBH), common assault, robbery and residential housebreaking.
